The 3 mechanisms of action

1. Active ingredients – the chemical mechanism of action

The mother tincture contains all the active ingredients that are extracted from the plant by the diluted alcohol. As with chemically synthesized medicines, the herbal agents affect the metabolism specifically by influencing the biochemical activity of enzymes. In contrast to those consisting of individual, mostly non-natural substances, herbal extracts always contain numerous natural agents. These frequently affect various aspects of the metabolism and often also have a different direction of action. Disorders are thus tackled from different sides. This holistic effect activates the body’s own healing forces, which can restore the organism’s balance. Herbal medicines cause no or only weak, reversible side effects, provided the dosage is not high. The dose of active ingredients in CERES mother tinctures is very low, so that – with very few exceptions - no side effects or interactions with other substances will occur.

For a better understanding of the information given further below, we shall explain the significance of the active ingredients’ structure: active ingredient molecules are particles with a complex, three-dimensional structure that trigger an effect in enzymes. Due to its structure, the active ingredient locks into a certain place in the enzyme with the reversed structure (like a key in a lock). As a result of this connection, the enzyme's shape changes, which modifies its activity. (This is a very much simplified version of the generally accepted scientific doctrine.)
