The 3 mechanisms of action

2. Information – the biophysical mechanism of action

Mother tinctures are solutions of herbal active ingredients in a mixture of alcohol and water. The share of active ingredients is much smaller than that of the solvent. The relation between the amount of active ingredients and solvent resembles fish in an aquarium. As mentioned before, the molecules of the active ingredients have a complex structure which is responsible for their effect. The solvent molecules, however, have a simple, uncomplicated structure. The solvent molecules’ key structural feature is that, due to their electric polarization, their particles are oriented. They arrange themselves in relation to each other and temporarily form hydrogen bonds that lead to intermolecular patterns. These structures are crucially affected by the solubilised molecules of the active ingredients.

The active ingredient’s structure imprints a mirror image structure into the surrounding solvent. The liquid’s structure contains information similar to digital information inherent in the structure of an electronic data medium. (This is currently the most wide-spread hypothesis about the information of homeopathic medicines). Hence, the active ingredients imprint a dynamic structure, i.e. information, into the solvent although the particles are constantly moving. Now, if not only the immediate proximity of the active ingredient’s molecule, but the entire solution is to have this structure, energy needs to be added.

In the production of homeopathic dilutions, energy is added by shaking (liquid excipients) or rubbing (solid excipients). Today mother tinctures are usually produced without the process of adding energy for information imprinting. The awareness about information being an important mechanism of action in mother tinctures has largely been lost. CERES mother tinctures, however, are produced using the unique CERES mortar grinder.

The mother tincture’s biophysical information can have an effect in the patient. This effect caused by the information supports and reinforces the substances’ effect. For biochemical reasons, however, the information can not have an effect directly at the metabolic level. It must affect a level that is superordinate to the metabolic level. The function of the inner organs and the metabolism are controlled by the nervous system and – via the pituitary – by the system of the endocrine glands. The nervous system and the pituitary, in turn, are controlled by the hypothalamus. So the hypothalamus is the level superordinate to the metabolism, and we think that this is where the information has an impact.
